Greensboro’s experienced, skilled workforce provides the foundation for success in aviation.  Through strong aviation maintenance, pilot, avionics and composite processing trainin, Greensboro’s workforce is ready to fly!

Guilford Technical Community College – T.H. Davis Aviation Center

The T.H. Davis Aviation Center, one of the most modern and best equipped aviation maintenance training facilities in the Southeast, is located at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA).  The Center gives students hands-on experience in maintenance, air traffic control, aviation management and piloting aircraft.  Customized, industry-specific training is available for companies. 

GTCC’s partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s oldest and most prestigious aviation and aerospace university, allows graduates of the Aviation Center the ability to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics, Technical Management, or Aviation Maintenance Managementon site at GTCC. 

North Carolina A&T State University

Part of the nationally acclaimed University of North Carolina system, NC A&T State University graduates the largest number of African American engineers, women engineers, and PhDs in the nation.  Rated a “High Research Activity” university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, aviation-related highlights include:

  • The Center for Aerospace Research:
    a partnership with NASA and the United States Space Program. The Center conducts critical research that supports NASA’s exploration of space and long-term human presence in space. Researchers are actively developing capabilities in the areas of space station design and management and micro-gravity materials research.
  • National Institute of Aerospace (NIA): 
    NIA, formed by a consortium of leading research universities including NC A&T, is a non-profit research and graduate education institute created to conduct leading-edge aerospace and atmospheric research, develop new technologies for the nation and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
  • The Advanced Composite Training Center: 
    The Center trains students in composite mechanics and theory to develop basic competencies in composite materials processing; provides services, consultation and training in manufacturing, processing, testing and failure analysis training on composite materials.

Guilford County Schools: Aviation Academy

Guilford County Schools are planning an Aviation Academy for high school students in partnership with Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC).  Students enrolled in the academy will begin taking aviation related coursework in 9th or 10th grade.  By the time the students are seniors in high school, they will be full-time students at GTCC’s T.H. Davis Aviation Center.  The academy is designed to get young people excited by aviation as a career before they leave high school.
