Aviation Employers
Our outstanding East Coast location midway between New York and Miami as well as our stable weather are also strategic assets as companies seek to service customers in population centers throughout the eastern United States without disruptions. Below are a few of our corporate citizens.
FedEx Mid-Atlantic Air Hub, currently under construction at Piedmont
Triad International Airport (PTIA), is the fifth and final FedEx
Express air hub in the United States. The hub will serve primarily
East Coast destinations and will be capable of sorting 24,000 packages
per hour. It is projected to employ 1,500 people.
Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. established its world headquarters
as well as its manufacturing and testing facilities in Greensboro
at PTIA. This new division of Honda Motor Co. will manufacture
the innovative, light HondaJet and is expected to employ over 300
people. Honda Aircraft Company’s President and CEO, Michimasa Fujino
commented, “I am very fortunate that we found in Greensboro and
North Carolina a place and a people who share in our vision and
our values. This is a place with a long-term vision for economic
growth and prosperity.”
TIMCO Aviation Services is the largest independent third-party maintenance,
repair and overhaul provider in the U.S. TIMCO, which has 1,675 employees,
offers scheduled line maintenance and services both wide and narrow
body aircraft. In addition, the company provides modification services
for the conversion of passenger aircraft to cargo configuration,
special mission conversions for military and research flight operations,
and after market retrofits, as well as aircraft engineering services.
