Aviation Cluster

Greensboro is a leader in aviation services in the Southeast. From jet aircraft manufacturing to aviation maintenance to overnight air delivery, many companies specializing in aviation call Greensboro home.

North Carolina has enjoyed a heritage as the birthplace of aviation ever since Orville and Wilbur Wright took their maiden voyage in Kitty Hawk in 1903.  Greensboro is continuing that legacy, providing aviation and aerospace companies with unlimited advantages for long-term, sustainable growth.

Piedmont Triad International Airport

The Piedmont Triad International Airport is crucial to the success of Greensboro’s aviation cluster.  The airport is part of a 3,500-acre campus that is home to more than 50 companies that infuse an estimated $1 billion into the local community annually. More than 4,500 people work on the campus. Today, the airport is the site of an aviation school, several freight and overnight delivery carriers, two fixed based operators, TIMCO and Cessna maintenance facilities, and the world headquarters and manufacturing center for Honda Aircraft Company that will manufacture the new HondaJet. The terminal’s 256,000 square feet include two concourses and 23 aircraft gates.  Presently, the airfield facilities include a main 10,000-foot runway and a 6,380-foot cross-wind runway.

The Piedmont Triad International Airport also includes the state-of-the-art FedEx Mid-Atlantic Hub, which opened in 2009.
