Greensboro Receives 5-Star Logistics Metro Designation

Greensboro, NC (Nov. 13, 2007) – Expansion management magazine has just released its annual Logistics Quotientä which is a ranking of the most logistics friendly cities in the United States.  For the first time, the Greensboro-High Point, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) was designated as a 5-Star Logistics Metro in the ranking along with such established logistics hubs as Dallas, TX, Memphis, TN, and Atlanta, GA.

The ranking is based on 10 main categories including:  workforce/labor costs/availability, fuel taxes and fees, water ports, road/highway basic infrastructure, road density and congestion, interstate highway access, transportation and warehousing industry climate, road and bridge conditions, air cargo service, and railroad service.

The Greensboro-High Point MSA was one of three MSAs in North Carolina to be designated as a 5-Star Logistics Metro.

“To be identified as a top notch metro area along with the hottest logistics metros in the country shows people in the industry that Greensboro is a place to watch – and the perfect place to site a project,” commented Dan Lynch, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance President.  “The ranking is also an indication that we need to keep investing in our highway system and other infrastructure as well as in developing a workforce suited for work in the logistics industry.”   Doug Galyon, Chairman of the Board of the NC Board of Transportation remarked, “I am pleased with this recognition and excited for the future transportation and logistics related opportunities in the area.  I know our transportation infrastructure is well-poised for growth.”
