Site Selection Magazine Announces Greensboro-High Point MSA #1
March 4, 2008 (Greensboro, NC) Site Selection Magazine, the leading publication for industrial site development in the nation, announced today that the Greensboro-High Point MSA ranked number one for the second straight year for new business attraction among similar sized metros (between 200,000 and 1 million in population).  The Greensboro area was in good company with cities like Wichita, Kansas, and the Raleigh – Cary area appearing in the ranking as well.

Greensboro, the largest city in the MSA is credited with the attraction and expansion projects with the most significant economic impact and the ones with the most potential to affect quality of life and job growth in the region.  Greensboro is responsible for 5 of the 6 projects with more than $10 Million in capital investment.  Honda Aircraft Company led the way with over $100 Million in investment and 400 jobs in Greensboro.   RFMD also planned new investment in excess of $100 million and 300 new jobs.   Lenovo’s local investment is over $10 milliion, P &G is investing $19 million and EcoLab is investing $12 million.   Over 1,400 new jobs were added in Greensboro and eastern parts of Guilford County in 2007 alone.

“This is quite an achievement for our MSA,” commented Greensboro Economic Development Alliance President, Dan Lynch.  “Rockingham County, Randolph County, and Guilford County have a lot to be proud of with this ranking.  It really shows that we have been working to maximize our assets.   With high profile business locations like FedEx and Honda Aircraft Company combined with consecutive recognitions like this one from Site Selection Magazine, the global business community is becoming increasingly aware of all that we have to offer in our region.”  Last year, the Greensboro metro was also designated as a 5-Star Logistics Metro by Expansion Management Magazine.

A member of the Greensboro Partnership, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance’s mission is to facilitate the creation of high quality jobs, attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing businesses, improve per capita income and generally improve the quality of life in Greensboro and Guilford County.  Most recently, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance announced that O’Reilly Automotive would be opening its first East Coast distribution facility in Greensboro bringing 360 new jobs and almost $42 million in new capital investment.
