Greensboro Economic Development Alliance Announces RFMD Expansion

Greensboro, NC (Sept 28, 2007) – The Greensboro Economic Development Alliance (GEDA) is very pleased to announce that RFMD will invest $103 million to expand its facilities in Greensboro.

The company plans to hire approximately 300 new employees and invest in new machinery and equipment over the next 3 years.

RFMD is the world’s largest maker of microchips for global wireless communications industries. With this project, the company, which was founded in Greensboro in 1991, will have invested over $500 million and will increase its local workforce to over 2,100.

“R.F. Micro was founded in Greensboro by three extremely talented guys and has grown into an advanced manufacturing powerhouse with branches all over the world,” says Dan Lynch, President of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance. “In a world of rightsizing and downsizing they continue to grow and prosper in Greensboro and for that we are very appreciative.”

Their brand-new wafer fabrication facility will locate in Enterprise Park III, a Highwoods Properties Class-A corporate park in the Piedmont Triad International Airport submarket.

The Greensboro Economic Development Alliance worked closely with RFMD by facilitating incentive requests and supporting the company throughout the expansion decision process. GEDA is pleased at the team effort that made this project possible.

Greensboro Economic Development Alliance’s (GEDA) mission is to facilitate the creation of high quality jobs, attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing businesses, improve per capita income and generally improve the quality of life in Greensboro and Guilford County. GEDA is a member of the Greensboro Partnership, created to develop a vibrant community that expands and attracts business while advancing the quality of life for all.
