Precor, Incorporated Celebrates Grand Opening in Guilford County, NC
New Facility is LEED CI Gold Certified
March 30, 2010 (Whitsett, NC) – Precor, Incorporated, one of the most respected brands in fitness equipment, has officially opened and begun operations at its new facility in Whitsett. The plant replaces a smaller facility in Valencia, CA, and will manufacture commercial strength equipment.
The company’s state-of-the-art, 225,000-square-foot manufacturing facility earned LEED CI Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED) is the nation’s premier program for design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Some of the steps Precor took to achieve LEED Gold Certification included:
Using low-flow fixtures to reduce water consumption by 42%
38% reduction in connected lighting power density
90% of equipment and appliances installed have Energy Star rating
Project recycled or diverted 80% of on-site generated construction waste from landfills
Low-emission paints, adhesives, flooring, and furniture
High-efficiency HVAC units for heating and cooling
“We are excited to welcome such a pioneer in advanced manufacturing to our community,” says Dan Lynch, President of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance (GEDA). “Achieving LEED Gold Certification is no easy task. By doing so, Precor is proving they are good stewards of the environment and of Guilford County.”
Precor plans to invest $26.2 million and hire approximately 142 new employees by 2011, with an average wage of $38,456 per year. To date, the company has hired 71 new employees with 6 internal transfers.
GEDA worked closely with Precor representatives throughout the site selection process. A member of the Greensboro Partnership, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance’s mission is to facilitate the creation of high quality jobs, attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing businesses, improve per capita income and generally improve the quality of life in Greensboro and Guilford County.
