Carolina Plastics Announces Expansion In Greensboro

Greensboro, NC (October 16, 2006) Carolina Precision Plastics, LLC (“CPP”) of Asheboro, NC is moving into its second facility, located in Greensboro, NC. The Greensboro facility is 80,000-square-feet, and was previously occupied by Core Systems, Inc., which is consolidating its molding operations into its Ohio plant. CPP will invest up to $5 million in equipment and building improvements over the next 3 years. Carolina Precision Plastics specializes in injection molded plastics for the consumer products, cosmetics, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. Headquartered in Randolph County, the company will create 150 jobs over the next three years and 200 over the next five years, with many of the new hires likely being laid-off Core Systems workers. While wages will vary by job function, the average weekly wage of the new jobs will be $736 plus benefits, which is more than the Guilford County average weekly wage of $659 not including benefits.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce Carolina Precision Plastics expansion to Greensboro,” said Kathi Dubel, vice president of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance. “This is the type of advanced manufacturing company we want to attract. This project offers good job opportunities for Greensboro and Guilford County citizens, immediately fills a manufacturing plant that is shutting down, increases the tax base, and helps ensure Carolina Precision Plastics viability as a Triad and North Carolina company.”

“The State of North Carolina has been a terrific business partner of Carolina Precision Plastics throughout our 20 years of operation in Asheboro,” said Brian Tauber, the president and CEO of the company. “Based on our continued growth, recent acquisition and fully-utilized facility, we have been active in seeking a second operating location. While our initial search focused on out-of-state facilities, the support that we have received from the State of North Carolina, the City of Greensboro, and Guilford County, has enabled us to keep all of our operations in North Carolina and remain competitive with manufacturers from other states and countries.”

“This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to U.S. manufacturing,” declared Ron Skinner, CPP’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are proving that we can remain competitive, provide the value our customers require, and are doing so in this country.”

Other partners who helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce and the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance.

A member of the Greensboro Partnership, Greensboro Economic Development Alliance’s mission is to facilitate the creation of high quality jobs, attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing businesses, improve per capita income and generally improve the quality of life in Greensboro and Guilford County.
