Greensboro, North Carolina Lands HondaJet

Greensboro, NC (February 9, 2007) Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. a new division of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., announced today that it would manufacture the innovative, light HondaJet at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC.  The announcement follows the selection of Greensboro as the world headquarters for Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. in August 2006.

 

The initial phase will be a $60 Million total investment, including a 68,000 square-foot corporate headquarters, design and sales center and 147,000 square-foot hangar where manufacturing and certification testing will occur.  Phase II will be a 150,000 square-foot airframe manufacturing facility.  Ultimately, Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. will employ more than 300 people in the Greensboro area and will pay an average wage of $75,000. 

 

“This is a wonderful, community changing event for Greensboro,” commented Jim Melvin, Chairman of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance operating group. “We are adding not only a corporate headquarters, but a world headquarters to the Piedmont Triad business community along with high-technology, high-paying jobs.” 

 

The Greensboro Economic Development Alliance (GEDA) worked closely with Honda representatives by facilitating incentive requests and supporting the company throughout the site selection process.   GEDA President Dan Lynch commented, “We are thrilled that Honda Aircraft Company has chosen Greensboro and look forward to their leadership and innovation.”

 

At the news conference, Mr. Fujino, President & CEO of Honda Aircraft Company stated, “I am very fortunate that we found in Greensboro and North Carolina a place and a people who share in our vision and our values. This is a place with a long-term vision for economic growth and prosperity.”  According to Mr. Fujino, Greensboro had several elements that were important in their decision:  support from the Piedmont Triad International Airport; weather; business and living environment; accessibility and shipping logistics such as the FedEx Air Hub; the quality of people; and resources for training.
