Incentives

State Incentives

North Carolina and the Piedmont Triad have been nationally recognized as good places to do business. Moderate wage rates, appropriate tax levels and a "pro-business" attitude encourage new companies to locate here and allow existing companies to grow. Maintaining a quality business climate while investing in the education and training of the workforce is the goal at all levels of government.

Article 3J Tax Credits

Article 3J provides two generous tax credits for companies growing in Guilford County: (1) Credit for Creating Jobs; and (2) Credit for investing in Business Property. A Tier 3 County, in general, a credit of $750 per new job and 3.5% for capitalized tangible personal property is available. Additional tax credits are offered for projects located in Greensboro's Urban Progress Zone.

Eligible businesses include: aircraft maintenance and repair; air courier services hub; company headquarters that creates at least 75 new jobs; customer service call centers; electronic shopping and mail order houses; information technology and services; manufacturing; motorsports; research and development; warehousing; and wholesale trade.

Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG)

The State of North Carolina’s key incentive tool for attracting major projects to North Carolina is the Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG). JDIG grant awards are available for strategically important, new and expanding businesses and industrial projects. Grants range from between 10% to 75% of state income tax withholdings paid by new employees. The program is competitive and up to 25 grants may be awarded in a calendar year.

North Carolina 3J Tax Credits
