Recent Locations and Expansions
In a new book entitled, Business Continuity Planning for Data Centers and Systems, the author, Ronald Bowman, Jr. names a Greensboro site as one of the best sites in the United States for the location of a data center project because of its superior power redundancy and fiber optic connectivity. Greensboro has recently attracted major divisions of multi-national companies in our targeted industry clusters and seen rapid growth from existing companies.
Precor Incorporated, one of the most respected brands in fitness equipment, announced that they will open a new Southeast manufacturing, assembly and distribution facility at Rock Creek Center in Eastern Guilford County. The company will build a 225,000 SF LEED certified building to accommodate their operations and will invest $26.2 million. Precor plans to hire approximately 142 employees by 2011.
FedEx Ground announced that they will build a new southeast sort facility in Guilford County, North Carolina. FedEx has purchased a 125-acre site along I-40 in the Triad Business Park and will construct a 400,000 sq ft facility capable of sorting 45,000 packages per hour at full build out. The FedEx Ground facility will open in 2011 with about 500 full- and part-time employees.
Mack Trucks Inc., one of North America’s largest producers of heavy-duty trucks, will relocate its headquarters and some support functions to Greensboro, creating 493 jobs and investing $17.7 million over the next three years. Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America, which is headquartered in Greensboro, are both members of the Sweden-based Volvo Group, the world’s second-largest producer of heavy-duty trucks.
O’Reilly Automotive, Inc., one of the top five auto parts retailers in the United States, announced that they will open an East Coast distribution facility in Greensboro. The facility will be in a new 300,000 sq ft speculative building in McConnell Center adjacent to I-40/85. O’Reilly will invest $41.7 million over three years and create 360 new jobs.
Canplast, expanded its workforce to create greater manufacturing capacity in their Greensboro location. The company will have added 33 employees by the end of 2008 that will serve as Plastics Machinery Operators. Canplast is known in North America as a premier Edgebanding supplier to the woodworking industry. Canplast is a subsidiary of the German company SURTECO.
Bonset America, made a $20 million investment to expand its facility in Browns Summit, NC to accommodate a new extrusion line. The new line, the largest of its kind in the world, is to be commissioned by third quarter 2008. The company will hire 18-20 new employees as a part of the expansion.
