Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA)

Airport Facilities

Known in the early 20th Century as the “best landing field in the South,” Piedmont Triad International Airport continues to expand and thrive.  PTIA offers a wide variety of aviation-related services including air cargo service, commercial aircraft maintenance, and general aviation services.

The passenger terminal building contains:

  • 296,000 square feet of area on two public levels
  • 65,000 square feet on the service level below ground level
  • 25 aircraft parking positions adjacent to the two concourses
  • Separate baggage claim and ticket counter areas for each concourse

The airfield facilities include three runways:

  • The main runway 5/23 is 10,001 feet long
  • The cross-wind runway 14/32 is 6,380 feet long
  • Parallel Runway 5L/23R 9,000 feet long


Air Cargo Service

Because the region is the manufacturing center of North Carolina, PTIA's air cargo facilities offer an established international gateway superior to many larger markets. Flexibility of congestion-free air space, on-going expansion, regularly-scheduled international service and independent cargo support allows PTIA to handle virtually all types of cargo. PTIA is a multi-model cargo facility with virtually all major trucking lines operating terminals near the airport.

  • Two fixed base operators:  Atlantic Aero – one of the nation’s top FBOs; and Landmark Aviation – general aviation, maintenance and avionics

  • PTIA is a multi-model cargo facility with virtually all major trucking lines operating terminals near the airport.

Commercial Aircraft Maintenance Facilities

  • TIMCO Aviation Services – largest independent third-party maintenance, repair and overhaul provider in the US with 1,675 employees and its corporate headquarters at PTIA
  • Cessna Citation Service Center – full-service maintenance for Citation aircraft
  • Comair, Inc. – aircraft overhaul and maintenance for Comair
