The new FedEx Mid-Atlantic Air Hub - an almost 1 million
square-foot facility - is operating at the Piedmont
Triad International Airport.
The new FedEx Hub is the company's fifth major U.S. air cargo hub. The Hub
is capable of sorting 24,000 packages per hour.
Some business advantages enhanced through a close location to a FedEx Hub are the ability to meet higher customer service expectations, have a more ambitious inventory strategy, focus more on supply chain optimization, ship to and from a variety of domestic or worldwide locations and have more shipping flexibility overall.
The current FedEx operation is one of the original 11
distribution centers the company established 25 years ago.
FedEx currently employs more than 250 workers in Greensboro
area facilities.
A third parallel 9,000 ft runway also is under construction
at Piedmont Triad International Airport to accommodate the
FedEx operation.
